What is Brain Training?
By Rebecca Shafir
Using established diagnostic and treatment principles enhanced by new research
findings, we customize a set of interventions based on the individual’s needs.
The client and the clinician (the “brain trainer”) work together 1-2x a week for 60-90 minutes a session.
The over-arching goals of brain training:
1) Maintain healthy brain function,
2) Build cognitive reserve,
3) Refresh functional memory, and
4) Improve information processing speed and efficiency.
Similar to a challenging physical workout, brain training can be quite rigorous, but enjoyable and varied.
Brain training may include strategies for stress management, concentration, memory, reading comprehension, critical thinking, communication skills and mental math. Biofeedback and neurofeedback techniques may also be recommended as part of the treatment.
Clients become more enabled to self regulate emotions/stress levels, and improve sleep, mood, energy, and clarity. Group work is also an option. Brain training is offered by Rebecca Shafir M.A .CCC a certified speech/language pathologist and neurotherapist and a member of Boston Brain Fitness.
